Kurdish political parties met in Qamishlo on Thursday to discuss the latest developments in Syria and Kurdistan.

The parties made a statement at the end of the meeting.

The statement includes the following remarks:

“Kurdish parties and their forces have held a special meeting. The participants discussed political developments in Syria and Kurdistan. The meeting focused on the Syrian crisis and the obstacles to a peaceful solution. We reaffirm that the Syrian democratic and national forces, including Kurdish forces, are working for a solution.

The participants discussed the work to be carried out after the defeat of ISIS in Baxoz, and welcomed the role of SDF, YPG, YPJ and the International Coalition.

The participants stated that the Syrian regime should fulfill the demand for a new constitution, in which the rights of the Kurds and all components are protected, especially the decentralized, democratic state of the Syrian people. Unfortunately the regime appears to be blocking the peaceful solution and the statements of Damascus regime officials indicated this.

The participants stated that the Kurdish people made efforts to create the appropriate atmosphere in order to develop dialogue under international monitoring. The Russian Federation also called for the positive role of mediation in the solution dialogue.

The participants called on the international community to take action against the Turkish state and its mercenary allies and their attack on the people of Afrin.

In addition the participants called on Turkey and its mercenary allies to withdraw from Afrin and on the people of Syria to work to liberate Afrin.

The United States decision to withdraw from Syria was also discussed at the meeting. Participants stating that the United States deepened the crisis in the region with this decision also asked the US to clarify its attitude towards Turkey and its threats against Northern and Eastern Syria.

The meeting also underlined the importance of the KNK initiative towards Kurdish national unity. Participants added that the initiative could set limits for disagreements between Kurds and support the initiative of Kurdish forces urging them to participate in the work of building a real Kurdish national unity.

During the meeting, the importance of internal peace in the regions of Northern and Eastern Syrian Autonomous Communities was underlined and the need to strengthen the brotherhood of peoples was also stressed.”
