Manbij Military Council foils new Turkish mercenaries infiltration attempt

Another infiltration attempt by Turkish mercenaries has been foiled in a village near Manbij in Northern and Eastern Syria. The Manbij Military Council exposed the attempt and clashes broke out leaving three attackers dead.

An infiltration attempt carried out by Turkish mercenaries has been prevented in the village of Çat near Manbij. As the Manbij Military Council announced, mercenaries of the so-called "Syrian National Army" (SNA) tried to enter and occupy the village. Clashes erupted and three mercenaries were killed. In order to be able to recover the bodies, the Turkish state put the area under artillery fire. As a result, a fire broke out in the area.

The Manbij Military Council is part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). In Manbij, the Islamic State ruled over the population for two and a half years. During the rule of the jihadists, the city was the hub for the logistical supply of the self-appointed Caliphate from Turkey. Therefore, Manbij is of symbolic and strategic importance for Turkey.

On 1 June 2016, the SDF and the Manbij Military Council launched an offensive to liberate the region at the Tischrin Dam. The battle for Manbij lasted a total of 75 days. It was an important success, in which especially YPJ fighters were significantly involved. On 15 August 2016, the Manbij Military Council announced the victory over ISIS. Since then, the city has been administered by a civil council in which all population groups and, above all, women are represented.
