The vigil launched by families in Semalka to demand the return of the bodies of the guerrillas who died as a result of a KDP ambush continues on its 72nd day.
Following the ambush set up by the armed special forces of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in the region of Xelîfan on 28-29 August, 5 HPG guerrillas fell as martyrs and only 2 HPG members, one of whom wounded, survived. The bodies of the fallen guerrillas are still in the hands of the KDP forces.
The action, launched by the martyrs’ families to obtain the return of the guerrilla bodies, at Semalka Gate, on the border between Southern (Bashur) and Western (Rojava) Kurdistan, has been continuing for 72 days. The KDP, however, remains silent.
The families who wanted to cross into the Federated Kurdistan Region from Northern and Eastern Syria's Jazira Canton via the Semalka Border Gate were repeatedly blocked by KDP forces. For this reason, tents were set up at the border gate.
Support visits are made throughout the day to the vigil, marches are organized towards the border gate. The families state that they are determined to continue their protests until the bodies are delivered.
