Massive funeral for SDF Commander Sîpan Efrîn in Derîk

"Today we bid farewell to a great commander here, a commander who played a leading role against Erdoğan and his gangs, and confronted all kinds of treason, said the Spokesperson of the YPG.

Masses bid farewell to SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) Commander Sîpan Efrîn (Mihemed Hemo) who lost his life after suffering a heart attack.

Thousands of people accompanied the SDF Commander in his final journey from the Martyr Hogir Hospital to Xebat Dêrik Cemetery of Martyrs.

After marching through the streets of Derîk, the mass reached the cemetery where a minute’s silence was observed before a military parade by SDF fighters.

Speaking at the ceremony, YPG Spokesperson Nûrî Mehmûd said the following; “Martyr Sîpan made history with his bravery on all fronts. He trained thousands of fighters. Today we bid farewell to a great commander here, a commander who played a leading role against Erdoğan and his gangs, and confronted all kinds of treason.”

Speaking after, Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM) Executive Board member Foza Yusif described Sîpan as a strong fighter who fought for freedom, justice and honor of peoples. Stressing that Martyr Sîpan sacrificed his life for the freedom of the Kurdish people, Yusif said; “Martyr Sîpan acted in the spirit of comradery. He is known for his patriotic personality. He was not a fighter alone, but also a mighty commander and engineer.”

After the speeches, the SDF Commander’s death certificate was read out and handed over to his family.

Martyr Sîpan was then laid to rest with slogans.
