Migrants in Rojava call for action against Turkish attacks

Migrants at Rubar Refugee Camp condemned the Turkish state’s attack on the camp and called upon the international community to ensure their security.

The invading Turkish army shelled Efrin’s Sherawa district from Azaz and Mari around 22:40 last night. The Rubar Refugee Camp located in the district was also targeted and 4 migrants got injured in the attack.

Many migrants fled to nearby fields in order to protect themselves from the attack. Migrants spoke to ANHA and condemned the Turkish state’s attacks on civilians.

Migrant Emina Zekeriya Hemede from Shehba expressed her fear of the attack and said “Everyone got scared when cannon balls landed among the migrants at the camp. My family and I were sitting inside the tent and our children got very scared when they heard the sounds.”

In tears, Emine continued; “We do not want anything but to live in peace. Turkish state and its gangs are bombing us. We already escaped from them but we did not get rid of their attacks here either.”

Migrant Leyla Mihemed from Aleppo stated that she had escaped to Rojava because of the attacks and said “We could not avoid the attacks even in the tents. We heard cannon sounds very closely. When we went outside, we saw that many people were fleeing the camp. We do not want anything but security, but Turkish invasion does not allow us to be safe.”

Waîl Hesen Elo from al Bab condemned the invading Turkish army's attack, saying: “We abandoned our tents in the camp and fled to the field. The international community must fulfill its duty and ensure the security of migrants.”

Another migrant by the name of Hisen Ehmed stated that they could not escape from Turkish attacks despite migration from the battle zone, and added: “We are displaced already because of the Turkish invasion, now Turkey wants us to migrate again. They do not allow us to live in peace. The Turkish state wants to invade entire Syrian lands.”

The migrants called upon the international community to stop the Turkish state’s attacks and ensure the security of migrants.

Nearly 5 thousand migrants are currently staying at the Rubar Camp, who are made up of mainly those from Shehba region that were displaced due to the attacks of the Turkish state and allied gang groups.
