“Military Police” arrest two members for joining protests against Turkish energy company

Civilians and Turkish-backed factions participated in protests against the Turkish electricity company in Al-Bab city on June 4.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that members of a Military Police patrol arrested two of their members yesterday, for “participating in peaceful protests against the Turkish electricity company in Al-Bab city on June 4”, in which hundreds of civilians and Turkish-backed factions from Al-Bab city in eastern Aleppo countryside participated as well.

The electricity in areas held by Turkish forces and their proxies is provided by Turkish companies “STE” and “AK energy”.

On June 4, SOHR reported that a member of “Jayish Al-Sharqqiyah” faction died of wounds he sustained by “police” bullets as they tried to disperse a demonstration against the Turkish electricity company in Jindires district of Afrin.

According to SOHR, the dead man was from Deir ez-Zor and was a fighter in “Jayish Al-Sarqqiyah” faction. The fighter did not carry weapons during the demonstration.

On the other hand, an Ankara-backed faction member was also found burned and shot dead inside the local council building in Afrin, during protests against the Turkish electricity company and after some protesters burned and vandalised the Turkish government-backed local council.

Jindires is witnessing an alert among the Jaish Al-Sharqiyah faction amid public fears of armed clashes, the observatory reported.

Meanwhile, the city of Al-Bab witnessed protests against the Turkish electricity company, and protestors in Marae city set the headquarters of the Local Council on fire, in light of ongoing public protests chanting “Syria is a free country… Turkish people should leave.”
