MLKP commander who fell in Kobanê remembered in Qamishlo

An apple tree has been planted in Qamishlo in memory of Sarya Özgür (Sibel Bulut), an MLKP fighter who died seven years ago in the fight against ISIS in Kobanê.

Members of the Communist Revolutionary Movement (TKŞ) and the Communist Revolutionary Women (JKŞ) in Qamishlo commemorated MLKP (Marxist-Leninist Communist Party) commander Sibel Bulut (Nom de Guerre Sarya Özgür) who fell fighting ISIS in Kobanê on 12 December 2014.

In a speech during the commemoration in the ‘Leader’s Park’ in Hilêliyê neighborhood, JKŞ member Cîhan Ehmed, in the name of the communists from Rojava, recalled that Sarya Özgür was a leading commander in the epic Kobanê resistance and the first female martyr of MLKP in Rojava. Ehmed continued, "We follow her on the road to freedom and socialism. Martyr Sarya fell for the revolution and we give our word that we will advance the revolution of Rojava into a socialist revolution."

After the speech, an apple tree was planted in the park in memory of Sarya Özgür. The event ended with songs sung together and the slogan "Martyrs are immortal".

Sarya Özgür, whose native name was Sibel Bulut, died on 12 December 2014 in the fight against the terrorist organisation ISIS in Kobanê. Born in 1986 in Dersim, the Kurdish woman devoted herself to journalism in Turkey and worked for the left-wing newspaper "Atılım". As a result, she faced a series of investigations by the pro-government judiciary and made the decision to take to the mountains. After a stay in the Medya Defense Zones in South Kurdistan, she joined the People's and Women's Defense Units (YPG/YPJ) in Rojava as a member of MLKP/Kurdistan. Initially she stayed in the canton of Cizîrê, and from 16 October 2014 she fought in Kobanê after her movement called for them to join and defend the revolution in Rojava.
