More refugees from Idlib reach Manbij

More than 200 families from the province of Idlib have now reached the self-governing city of Manbij. SDF Commander Mazlum Abdi Kobanê appealed to the displaced persons at the end of December, that the doors of the region were open to people from Idlib.

Since mid-December, more than 300,000 people have fled the escalating fighting and air raids from the last "rebel region" Idlib in north-western Syria. Most people have fled to the north: to the cities of Ariha and Saraqeb or to already overcrowded refugee camps on the border with Turkey. Their situation is dramatic: the winter poses an additional danger for those seeking protection, who have left their homes with little more than the clothes on their backs.

The self-governing areas of northern and eastern Syria show solidarity with the displaced people from Idlib: the city of Manbij has so far been able to accommodate around 220 families. The last group of about 85 families was led by the SDF on Saturday across the border river Sajur, a tributary of the Tigris, where the Awn al-Dadat crossing is located. It is the point of passage from the Turkish-occupied territories in northern Syria to the self-governing regions.

Mazlum Abdi Kobanê, General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (QSD), appealed at the end of December that the doors of the region were open to people from Idlib.
