MSD calls on international observers to monitor ceasefire

The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) issued a written statement about the ceasefire agreement brokered by the US.

The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) stressed that they would insist on protecting the lives of people and combat against forced migration. The MSD also issued a call to watch out on the ceasefire violations by the Turkish state.

In the statement the MSD said: "With the approval of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a ceasefire agreement was reached between the SDF and the Turkish state, with the mediation of the US, covering the region between Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî.

The SDF acted in accordance with the terms of the ceasefire agreement, while the Turkish state and its mercenaries have been in breach of the agreement.

In the morning, the village of Um El-Xêr in the southeast of Serêkaniyê was targeted and 5 SDF fighters and civilians lost their life. Again, the access of civilians to the injured was prevented by artillery shots."

The statement continued: "The Syrian Democratic Council reiterates that we accept the ceasefire decision on the basis of the territorial integrity of Syria in order to protect the lives and gains of our people and prevent further displacement."

However, said the statement, "Ankara soldiers and thousands of mercenaries continued their attacks. On this basis, we call on the United Nations Security Council and the Arab League to act and to send international observers to the region for the protection of the ceasefire. In particular the call is to the US, which brokered this ceasefire agreement."

The statement added: "This ceasefire should become permanent and the Turkish state should withdraw from the region. The Turkish state and its mercenaries have carried out massacres in the region and these massacres have been reflected in international reports.

We would like to express our thanks once again to all the personalities, world powers and states who have expressed solidarity to us.

Finally, we emphasize that the permanent solution to the Syrian crisis can be achieved through political channels and through UN-monitored dialogue in Syria."
