Newroz celebrated in Ain Issa

People in Ain Issa celebrated Newroz despite the ongoing attacks and fierce fighting. SDF fighters lit traditional Newroz's fires on the frontline.

Despite artillery attacks and violent clashes on the frontline, Newroz was celebrated in the small town of Ain Issa in northern Syria. The highlight of the festivities was a fire lit by women from the Peace Mothers' Initiative. Earlier, the crowd was greeted by Leyla Mişo, co-chair of the Girê Spî canton, and Bozan Berkel, a spokesperson for the Revolutionary Youth Movement in Northern and Eastern Syria.

The current situation in Ain Issa was highlighted in short speeches. For months, the Turkish army, together with its mercenary allies, has been trying to occupy the small town on the strategic M4 highway. Ain Issa is defended by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The committee for culture and art of the canton Kobanê took care of the musical program featuring the band Koma Gulava, made up of visually impaired members. This was followed by children's folklore group from Girê Spî. The celebration ended with dance performance by an all women group.

SDF fighters also lit a fire in Ain Issa. The smoke rose meters high in several places.
