The Health Committee of the Cizire Region is setting up the first Oncology Hospital in Northern and Eastern Syria. The need is great and the treatment will be free.
So far, cancer patients from the region have been forced to travel to Damascus or Southern Kurdistan for medical treatment. The new hospital is scheduled to open in three months and is a great relief as the outward treatment is both costly and time-consuming.
Fifty-year-old Zekiya Cuma has breast cancer. She told ANHA that she had to go to Damascus for treatment because of the inadequacy of existing hospitals in the region. The journey there is arduous and expensive for people from the autonomous region, and the treatment is hardly affordable. Zekiya Cuma described the planned opening of the Oncology Hospital in Qamishlo as a "very positive step".
Internist Daniş Hac İbrahim points out that an early diagnosis is vital, especially in the case of cancer: "The hospital, set up by the Health Committee, simplifies both diagnosis and treatment."
Menal Ehmed, co-chair of the Cizire Health Committee, says that the hospital will be equipped with modern technical equipment. All health services in the hospital will be free of charge.
