Opinion leaders in North-East Syria call for unity against Turkey's invasion attacks

The Opinion Leaders Board in north-eastern Syria called for unity against the Turkish invasion attacks in the region.

The Opinion Leaders Board of the North and East Syria released a statement concerning Turkey’s aggression and attempts to change the demographic structures of the occupied regions.

Dozens of Kurdish and Arab tribal leaders were present during the press statement which was read out by Mistefa El-Yûsifî, a member of the Opinion Leaders Board, in Qamishlo city.

“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is threatening to invade North and East Syria at a time when a peaceful solution has been sought in the Middle East and Syria,” the statement said.

'TURKISH STATE POSES THREAT TO PEOPLES'

The statement pointed out that the threats of the Turkish state are aimed at entire Syria, saying:

“All the components of society here have lived together for thousands of years in northern Syria. Therefore, our unity should not be shattered, and our peace and security should not be endangered.

The security zones mentioned by Ankara and Erdogan pose a danger to the Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs and Yazidis. After the forced displacement of the population and their replacement by extremist mercenaries, Syria, Iraq and other parts of the neighbouring countries will be occupied. The main purpose is to protect terrorist groups and put them at Turkey’s disposal. This step poses a danger to the SDF that came into prominence through their fight against terrorism and to the international powers that are waging a war on terror.”

The statement called on the pro-peace and democracy forces to ensure unity against the invaders, adding, “Turkey's greed could be halted by our free will.”

The Board called on the Syrian government to engage in dialogue with the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) for a solution to the Syrian crisis in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254.
