Since January 27, the occupant Turkish state has been lowering the level of Euphrates River water which flows over Syrian and Iraqi territories and supplies water for the people in the region. The Turkish state continuing to cut off the water for 4 months endangers the lives of millions of people. It violates international criterions and the agreement signed with Syria in 1987, which guarantees 500 cubic meter of water per second for Syria. Despite this violation, Iraqi and Syrian governments and the international community continue to remain silent against this crime.
Syrian Left Party Central Committee member Kamiran Ginco and Syrian Kurdish Democrat Party Central Committee (PDKS) member Gulistan Eti assessed the issue for ANHA.
TURKEY DIRECTLY TARGETS WILLPOWER OF THE PEOPLE
Kamiran Ginco stated that the occupant Turkish state targets willpower of the peoples standing with the Autonomous Administration in North-East Syrian regions through cutting off the water and it intends to weaken the willpower of the Autonomous Administration. Expressing that it is a terrorist action of the Turkish state against Syrian lands to cut off the water, he stressed that Turkey should be brought to account for this.
IRAQ AND SYRIA CONTINUE REMAINING SILENT
Pointing out the silence of Iraqi and Syrian governments against the violation of their peoples’ rights, Ginco said, “The silence of both governments demonstrates their approval for the crimes committed against Iraqi and Syrian peoples.”
THE TURKISH STATE STEALS THE SHARE OF SYRIA AND IRAQ
Likewise, Gulistan Eti, member of PDKS Central Committee recalled that Kurdish politicians, the international community and human rights organisations have not remained silent and have called for action to stop these crimes many times. She continued, “The Turkish state attacks the people in the region in all ways such as using the Euphrates River water as a weapon. It violates the agreement signed with Iraq and Syria. In the meantime, it steals Iraqi and Syrian people’s share of the Euphrates River water.”
‘IRAQ AND SYRIA MUST STAND AGAISNT TURKEY’S CRIMES’
Expressing that outage of the water effects not only the people of North-East Syria but also whole people living in Iraq and Syria, Gulistan Eti accordingly indicated the silence of two governments as the reason of the danger caused by water outage. She stressed that Iraqi and Syrian governments should defend their people and added, “They should stand against the Turkish state’s crime instead of becoming accomplice to it.”
Eti pointed out the significance of the statements of the human rights organisations and called for the silence against Turkey’s crimes to be broken and pressure to be put on Ankara to release Euphrates water.
The water of Euphrates River has been lowered 7 meters for the first time in the history.
