Protest at Semalka on its 70th day

For over two months, a vigil has been held around the clock at the Sêmalka border crossing in Rojava. Families are demanding the delivery of the bodies of the guerrillas fallen in an ambush by the KDP.

The Assembly of Martyrs’ Families in Northeast Syria launched a vigil on 5 October demanding the delivery of the bodies of the guerrillas killed in a KDP ambush in Xelîfan on August 28. The vigil at the Sêmalka border crossing, located on the border between South (Bashur) and West (Rojava) Kurdistan, has become a focus of protest against the KDP's collaboration with Turkish fascism. For over two months, various groups have been taking over the vigil around the clock. The families of the martyrs announce that the action will continue until the remains are handed over to them. The families are asking in particular for the delivery of the remains of guerrillas Nesrîn Temir (Tolhildan Raman) and Yusif Îbrahîm (Serdem Cûdî), who came from Rojava.

Members of the Eastern District Council from Qamishlo took over the action on its 70th day.

Kongreya Star Qamishlo Canton Spokesperson Şaxa Xelîl made a speech on behalf of the group and said the following:

“Men, women, young and old people have been carrying out this action for 70 days to demand the bodies of martyrs from the KDP. December 10 was International Human Rights Day. Where are the defenders of human rights? We have been protesting for days to receive our bodies, but the whole world remains silent, including those who promote human rights. We urge everyone who defends human rights to take a clear stance and to pay attention to the demands of the families of martyrs.”

“The Turkish state committed a massacre in Qamishlo. It attacked Shengal several times. Their attacks on Rojava, Bashur and Shengal are continuing uninterrupted. It has been carrying out large-scale attacks against the Medya Defense Zones for 8 months. It is the treacherous KDP that supports the Turkish state in these attacks, guides their troops in the guerrilla areas, provides intelligence information and assistance in the killings of civilians,” Xelîl added.

Reacting to the KDP, Xelîl emphasized that "We will always expand our struggle and bring our Rojava Revolution to victory”.
