Turkish drones carried out an air attack on the house of Abdullah Öcalan, where he stayed for a while in the village of Elpelorê, in Kobanê in 1979. The attack sparked reactions.

"OUR PEOPLE GAVE A CLEAR MESSAGE"

Democratic Union Party (PYD) Co-Chair Eyşê Hiso said that the Turkish state attacked Öcalan's sentimental legacy: “On April 4, our people visited the house where Leader Öcalan had stayed for a while. A feast was held there on April 4 to celebrate Öcalan's birthday. Our people gave a clear message to the Turkish state during the celebration. They emphasized that they will act in line with the thoughts of Öcalan."

Hiso stated that the Turkish state is looking for an excuse to attack North and East Syria and to aggravate the isolation on Öcalan. “The attack targeted the patriotic feelings of the people. They want to wipe free will out. Since they fear Öcalan, they put him at the center of their attacks."

"THEY WANT TO ELIMINATE SPIRITUALITY"

Recalling that the Turkish state had attacked Öcalan's legacy before, Hiso continued, “During the invasion of Afrin, they attacked Öcalan's poster in Bilbile district. The purpose of these attacks is clear. The Turkish state is going through a crisis. They are trying to distract the public. Furthermore, they want to shatter the Rojava revolution shaped by Öcalan's thoughts.”

Pointing to Turkey’s intention to invade the North and East Syrian territories, Hiso added,

“They are trying to maintain borders depicted in the 1920 National Pact. They are trying to annex Syrian lands to Turkey. We will continue to live within the framework of the concepts of brotherhood of peoples, equality and justice in the Autonomous Administration. We will protect everyone's rights.”
