The PYD (Democratic Union Party) General Assembly issued a written statement and said that “the Turkish state has occupied Afrin Canton for 4 years. With the occupation of Afrin, the Turkish state violated Article 51 of the UN, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and The Hague agreement signed in 1907.”
The statement continued:
“The intervention of internal and external parties started the war against Afrin. The mercenaries linked to the Turkish state have committed brutal crimes against civilians, changing the demography of the region, the names of the villages and cities. Hundreds of people had to emigrate because of the attacks and fear.
In this context, we salute the 58-day resistance of our people.
We call on the UN, legal organizations and world states to break their silence and fulfil their responsibilities towards Afrin and the people of the region.
We salute the resistance of our refugee people and state that the liberation of Afrin and other occupied areas is our main strategy.”
