Refugees from Idlib: Turkey uses us as a bargaining chip

While displaced people from Idlib are kept waiting at the Turkish border, hundreds of families have now reached the self-governing areas in northern Syria. There they are provided with the modest means of the autonomous administration.

In the past two weeks, over 200 more families from Idlib have reached the self-governing areas in northern and eastern Syria. The General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had previously stated that the doors of Northern and Eastern Syria were open to the people of Idlib. Since then, people from Idlib have been arriving in the region in masses.

ANHA news agency visited the Abu Qibii camp located in the southwest of Raqqa and spoke with refugees from Idlib.

Hamide al-Absi tells that they have become the target of the Syrian regime's bombs directly in front of a Turkish observation point and that the attacks continue despite the ceasefire. They have therefore left their village al-Rami and escaped to the areas controlled by the autonomous administration.

Turkey slammed the door in the refugees' faces

In the meantime, another camp called al-Mansura is being built for IDPs from Idlib in the south of the Euphrates.

Fatma al-Khatib from Idlib complains: "The Turkish state has slammed the door in the face of the refugees fleeing the regime's bombardments. Nevertheless, it is using the number of refugees as a bargaining chip. It wants to obtain international aid and funds through the refugees."
