Riyad Derar of MSD says Astana talks go counter to Autonomous Administration

MSD co-chair Riyad Derar said that the outcomes of the 16th round of Astana talks on Syria have proved the hostility towards the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

The outcomes of the 16th round of Astana talks initiated with trilateral meetings of the guarantor countries -Turkey, Russia and Iran- have once again proved the hostility against the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. Contrary to their rhetoric of respecting Syria’s territorial sovereignty, the three countries have been violating Syria's sovereign rights for years.

While the Turkish state has occupied about 12% of Syria's territory, Russia has taken the strategic places of Syria under its control by signing several agreements with the weakening Damascus government.

Speaking to ANHA, co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) Riyad Derar stated that the results of the latest talks were similar to the previous ones and all of them were against the Autonomous Administration. He pointed out that these results may lead to armed conflict or new attacks.

Pointing to the balance of power between the Syrian opposition and the Astana parties, Derar said, “It is obvious that the entente representatives approve of the politics in Astana. They want to cause strife and problems in the region.”

Derar noted that the three countries in Astana have made long-term plans by taking advantage of the absence of the USA and Europe.

“Many problems will ensue, and we must resist against them,” the MSD co-chair added.
