Thousands of buildings were reduced to rubble in the barbaric ISIS attacks against Kobane in 2014-2015. According to information provided by the Kobanê Reconstruction Committee, 70% of buildings were damaged in the war and the city’s infrastructure was severely compromised.
After the rubble took over the city, residents and the Kobanê Canton Autonomous Administration gave the Reconstruction Committee authority to deal with the issue. Various aid organizations promised to support the reconstruction of Kobanê, but when the efforts actually started none of them kept their promises.
With the efforts to lift the rubble, an area to the north of the city was allocated for a museum. After 3 years, the city now has a different look: The Popular Municipality has repaired hundreds of damaged homes, and planted thousands of trees.
