The SDF has relaunched the Operation Cizire Storm on Monday to clear the area still under ISIS control, centered around the Dishisha town, to the south of Heseke and to ensure the security of the Iraq-Syria border.
SDF fighters advanced 4 km in the operation relaunched yesterday, bringing the distance between the Dishisha town and the fighters to 25 km. The area liberated by SDF fighters includes the Feq region and some subdistricts to the east of the Sheddade district.
OPERATION CIZIRE STORM RELAUNCHED
The SDF had paused the Operation Cizire Storm following the Turkish state and their allied gangs’ attacks against Afrin. ISIS members taking advantage of the Turkish state attacks increased their power in the areas they held on to once again during this time.
By early May, SDF relaunched the Operation Cizire storm and this Monday an operation was launched to clear the areas under ISIS invasion to the southeast of Heseke and to secure the Syria-Iraq border.
After the SDF fighters reached the Feq subdistrict in a short time, ISIS gangs attacked fighters in the Til Menax village. Following a short clash in the area, the gangs were forced to withdraw.SDF fighters spoke to ANHA about developments in the operation. Fighter Lorens Amed from Deir Ez Zor said: “Our forces advanced quite a lot on one side. Our primary goal in the operation is to liberate the Dishisha area and to secure the Iraq-Syria border. With this advance, there is 25 km left between us and the Dishisha area. We have advanced 4 km. Our fighters have great morale. Victory is ours, we will defeat the gangs.”
“WE RECEIVED CIVILIANS FLEEING ISIS GANGS”
Fighter Xidir El Eli said: “Just now there was a clash between ISIS gangs and us. As a result of our fighters’ resistance, ISIS gangs were forced to withdraw from the Til Menax territory. They abandoned their positions and fled. Today we received civilians fleeing ISIS gans. We brought in vehicles to take them to the Sheddade district in Heseke.”
SDF fighters continue to advance in the region.
