The SDF special teams dealt another blow to the Islamic State. An Islamic State commander and two other jihadists were arrested during an operation in Deir ez-Zor.
The press office of the Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) said that special teams, in cooperation with the International Coalition, managed to arrest several ISIS jihadists. The arrests took place between 14 and 15 November.
Among those arrested there is said to be a former ISIS commander who has not been named. He was arrested on 15 November 15 in the north of al-Shaddadi (Şedadê).
Al-Hol breakout halted
On the same day, the special teams arrested an armed ISIS jihadist after he broke out of the al-Hol detention center. Tens of thousands of jihadists and their families are still interned in al-Hol camp. The Turkish secret service MIT has tried several times to free jihadists from the camp. A general amnesty declared by the Autonomous Administration a few weeks ago allowed people in al-Hol to be released after a security check establishing that they have not been involved in serious crimes.
Arrest in the Okaidat area
Another ISIS jihadist was captured on 14 November in the Okaidat area near Deir ez-Zor. In this region, the Islamic State is pursuing a strategy of "tension" with the support of Turkey and, at time, the regime. Tribal leaders are being murdered by sleeper cells with the aim of destabilizing the region and sowing discord between the Autonomous Administration and the tribes.
