In northeastern Syria, several villages came under fire from Turkish and jihadist occupation forces this evening. The attacks are concentrated in settlement areas in Til Temir and Zirgan. Positions of Syrian regime forces have also been attacked.
In Til Temir, several shells hit the Christian-populated villages of Derdara and Til Shanan in the northeast of the city, according to the Rojava-based news agency ANHA. The villages of Abush and Umm al-Kayf, west of Til Temir, were also bombed. There, the attack was also directed against Syrian Army checkpoints, among other targets. At the same time as the artillery attacks, the affected areas are being shelled with heavy weapons.
Further attacks in the area around the village of Al-Manakh are being responded to by the Til Temir Military Council on the basis of legitimate self-defense. According to available information, several jihadists were killed.
In Zirgan, bombardments by occupation forces are currently taking place in the villages of Til Werd and Rebîat.
According to reports from the ground, the attacks on the region injured two Syrian army soldiers and an elderly woman. Those injured have been taken under treatment at the Research Hospital in Til Temir.
Massive troop concentrations in the run-up to the attacks
In the run-up to the attacks on Til Temir and Zirgan, the Turkish army had massed additional contingents in its illegal occupation zone. Since early Wednesday morning, there had been intense troop concentrations and arms shipments along the seventeen-kilometer contact line near Til Temir between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on one side and Turkey's jihadist mercenary federation on the other. The positions of the SDF-affiliated Til Temir Military Council were overflown for hours by Turkish reconnaissance drones. The Turkish army and its SNA militias also increased troop strength in the area surrounding the nearby community of Zirgan (Ebû Rasên, also Abu Rasan) near Serêkaniyê (Ras al-Ain). Military circles reported that positions were fortified and trenches dug.
