Soldiers injured in mine explosion in Afrin

In the northwestern Syrian region of Afrin, which is occupied by Turkey, an explosive device exploded when a vehicle of the Turkish army crossed the border. Three soldiers are said to have been seriously injured.

On Thursday evening, a mine exploded in the Turkish-occupied northwestern Syrian region of Afrin during the passage of a vehicle of the Turkish army. According to available information, at least three military personnel are said to have been injured in the detonation.

It is still unclear whether this was a targeted attack against the Turkish army convoy that was moving near the village of Kafr-Shal northwest of central Afrin at about 6 p.m. local time. So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the incident.

The formerly self-governing canton of Afrin has been occupied by Turkey in violation of international law since March 2018. Most of the more than 250,000 displaced persons from what was once the safest region in Syria still live in temporary camps in desert-like no man's land Shehba.
