Students from Afrin protest the Turkish invasion

The students vowed to fight until Afrin is freed.

Members of the Cizire Region Council of Students from Afrin protested the Turkish invasion of Afrin on its second anniversary.

The students made a statement to the press in front of the United Nations representation in the Qamishlo city.

Highlighting the Kurdish people’s history of resistance, struggle and uprising, the statement recalled the massacres perpetrated by the enemies of the Kurdish people in Geliye Zilan, Dersim, Anfal, Halabja, Kobane, Afrin, Serekaniye and Gire Spi.

Remarking that the culture of resistance developed among the Kurds in response to these genocidal attacks, the statement said; “Erdoğan, the gang leader of the 21st century, attacked the olive land Afrin, the land of Avesta, Ilan and Barin, on 20 January 2018, which went down in history as the black day.”

Recalling the 58 days of historic resistance under the leadership of Avesta, Barin and Karker, the statement said that this resistance has expanded further every passing day.

The statement ended with: “We in the Council of Students from Afrin strongly condemn this black day and call for an end to the silence of the institutions that supposedly advocate for human rights, women’s rights and children’s rights. We have always existed and will always exist. We will fight until Afrin is freed.”
