Syrian Democratic Council visits Moscow

A delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria met Russian Foreign Ministry's representatives.

The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) issued a statement about a visit to Moscow on Wednesday.

The statement reads: "Today [Wednesday], at the official invitation of the Russian Foreign Ministry, a delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, headed by Mrs. Ilham Ahmed, held a meeting with representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry headed by Mikhail Bekdanov.
The meeting was positive, and emphasized the political solution to the Syrian crisis in accordance with UN Resolution 2254 and the need for the SDC to participate in the political process. The delegations discussed the ongoing violations by Ankara of Syrian sovereignty.
The Syrian Democratic Council seeks to hold intensive meetings with various international actors, mainly about the Syrian issue, with the aim of searching for opportunities to end the conflict and start a transitional phase towards the political solution that must lead to a lasting and stable peace.
A delegation of the SDC headed by Mrs. Ilham Ahmed had previously met with the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, in September of last year, and the meeting was as a part of the efforts of the Syrian Democratic Council to convince the Russian Federation of the importance of supporting the national democratic opposition for its efforts to unify energies and the need for Russia to play a key role in strengthening the efforts in Syria to accept the dialogue and start serious steps towards a political solution."
