The Deir ez-Zor region was the last area under the rule of the terrorist Islamic State. To prevent the region from being liberated, large areas of land were mined with countless booby traps. The Roj Mine Control Organization (RMCO) has now been able to clear explosive devices from an area of ​​33,000 square meters in which 4,400 people live in a 46-day mine clearance campaign. 3,722 booby traps and devices were discovered and defused on the site. Countless mortar shells and even Katyusha missiles were among the defused explosive devices.

The RMCO was founded in 2016 as a specialized bomb disposal team. A year later, the ten-person team began to network with international organizations.
