TEV-DEM calls on Iraq to recognize the status of Shengal

The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) issued a written statement on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the genocide in Shengal, which was carried out on 3 August 2024.

The statement commemorated the martyrs of Shengal and greeted the Rojava Kurdistan components that provided material and moral support to the people of Shengal.

The statement said: "10 years have passed since the most brutal massacre against humanity. On 3 August 2024, the despotic and terrorist systems wanted to commit genocide on the Yazidi community in Shengal using ISIS mercenaries. The massacre in Shengal was carried out by the occupying Turkish state led by the fascist AKP, with the support of some states in the region. The KDP openly supported ISIS in this cultural genocide carried out against the most ancient faith in history. We, as TEV-ÇAND, see this massacre as a crime against humanity."

KDP has given shengal to ISIS

The statement, which drew attention to the fact that the KDP has cooperated with the Turkish state and terrorist groups against the will of the Yazidi society, added: "With its stance in Shengal, the KDP has betrayed history, the legacy of resistance and the Yazidi society, turning a blind eye to the killing, kidnapping and sale of women and children. It has shamelessly given up Shengal’s historical, cultural and moral heritage to ISIS terror."

The statement continued: "The KDP’s policies have shown that its relations with extremist Islamic groups are strong, and for this reason, Kurdish society has abandoned its moral values in the eyes of political and national powers and stopped protecting the Yazidis. Today, it is openly abandoning the values of the Kurdish people for the interests of the fascist occupying Turkish state, the spread of terror and gangs. The KDP is establishing checkpoints for terrorists in various parts of South Kurdistan. The failure to hold this party accountable for the crimes it committed against the Yazidi community in Shengal allowed the war criminals, murderers and terrorist groups who committed massacres in Shengal, Kobanê, Afrin and Serêkaniyê to move to the Duhok region."

The statement hailed the resistance of the Yazidi community in Shengal, and called on the Yazidis living in the camps to return to Shengal and fight to defend their historical values, and on all international powers to organize actions against the invaders, terror and traitors.

Yazidis do not trust KDP policies

The statement called on the Iraqi government to recognize the will and status of the Yazidis in Shengal, and added: "The Iraqi government should end its silence. Its presence in Baghdad alone is not a solution. It should quickly produce solutions in line with national democratic principles and values, and recognize the status of Shengal with a positive initiative to solve all problems in Iraq."

The statement called on all political and national forces, civil and legal organizations in Kurdistan and Iraq to pressure the KDP not to interfere in the affairs of the Yazidis in Shengal, and noted: "The Yazidi society does not trust the empty policies of the KDP administration. The KDP, which serves the fascist occupying Turkish state, plays a dangerous role in the fate of our Kurdish people."
