The Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM) released a statement about the increasingly ongoing attacks by the Turkish state against North-East Syria amidst the silence and inaction of international powers.
In a statement released on Sunday, TEV-DEM pointed out that the latest wave of intensified attacks came after the AANES (Autonomous Administration of North and Est Syria) announcement of a declaration to resolve the Syrian crisis and decision to begin the trial of foreign ISIS members detained in North-East Syria.
TEV-DEM remarked that, in the face of the escalating Turkish attacks on the entire geography of North-East Syria, in which drones are mostly used, it seems that Russia and the US-led international coalition present in the region are unwilling to interfere in this matter or to express any moral stance towards the Turkish state’s arbitrary and brutaly threats and interventions against the will and sovereignty of the region. According to TEV-DEM, it seems that the two sides agree not to prevent Turkey from killing the Kurds, Arabs and all components in the region because of their political interests without considering the interests of the people".
TEV-DEM pointed to the situation in the Shehba Canton, which, it said, is experiencing a state of instability as a result of the war declared by the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries against the region, and constant bombings by Turkish warplanes violating the airspace controlled by the Russian forces stationed in the region with the Damascus government forces, which remain without any clear positions regarding these fascist Turkish attacks.
The statement stressed that the agreements organized by the countries of the Astana group have turned the Seahba region into a conflict arena between them, causing the death of many victims due to the bombing of the Turkish occupation. It added that the goal is to undermine the will of local people and the IDPs from occupied Afrin.
TEV-DEM defined the bombing of Til Rifat Hospital as a new crime and massacre attempt that sought to jeopardize the lives of thousands of patients, to cut off their supplies and to force them to flee, as it is the only hospital that is serving and treating patients and dealing with emergency cases day and night despite the lack of capabilities, daily bombardment by the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries and the embargo imposed by the Damascus government.
According to the statement, the targeted bombing of the hospital paralyzed the movement of the medical staff and stopped the service as a result of the damage caused to the hospital. “This is considered the greatest threat to the lives of tens of thousands of Kurdish and Arab families in the region who are deprived of the most basic rights and live under very difficult conditions as a result of the systematic extermination policies and the imposition of economic and social embargo. The people there are the victim of conspiracies and dirty policies aimed at sustaining the Syrian crisis and preventing any positive and influential development of the Autonomous Administration in the democratic solution and its exclusion."
TEV-DEM affirmed that the resistance of the people in the Shehba region, as in occupied Afrin, is increasing day by day, adding: “As our people rely on their own will and insist on resistance, expressing their stances related to values and principles, the Turkish state expands its attacks on all regions of North-East Syria to strike security and stability in the region with the aim of preventing the success of the trial of ISIS terrorists."
TEV-DEM criticized the United Nations, human rights organizations and the International Red Cross over their complete absence and failure to assume their moral responsibilities in the face of the war and destruction suffered by the Shehba region and the new attempts of occupation in all the regions of North-East Syria. "Their absence paves the way for directing the region towards a disaster and daily crimes by the weapons of Turkish regime.”
TEV-DEM called on the Kurdish people and all the people of the region to embrace the resistance of the Afrin IDPs and all the residents in Shehba and to support them in their legitimate struggle against the policies of extermination and the Turkish occupation. “As the Turkish state obviously seeks to take revenge on the will of all peoples, we must raise the pace of our struggle and resistance through solidarity and cohesion,” the statement concluded.
