Mesûd Ibrahîm was buried in Kobanê, with a ceremony attended by thousands of people. The activist of the youth movement of North and East Syria died on Sunday night of the injuries he suffered from the Turkish drone attack on December 25. A procession to the Şehîd Dîcle cemetery accompanied the coffin of Ibrahîm.
The memorial ceremony for the Kurdish activist, who was born in 1992 in the village of Ziravkê south of Kobanê and was known by the youth movement as Behdînan Kobanê, also took place there. Buried at the same time was Rêber Temo, a fighter for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). He died of a fatal heart attack a few days ago.
The funeral ceremony was opened by a minute's silence. Then Xunav Xelîl, co-chair of the Committee for Youth and Sport, spoke in memory of the five other activists who were killed in the air strike by the Turkish state. The politician said: "It was a targeted attack. Because organized youth is the most dynamic part of a society. It is our strength, our brain and our future. Because of this significant role and their potential for social innovation, the youth are the main targets in this aggression."
Ehmed Şêxo from the Executive Council of the Kurdish party PYD said that the Turkish state is pursuing a policy of "annihilating revolutionary achievements" achieved with the "blood of the martyrs" in the autonomous regions of northern and eastern Syria. "We are aware that the resistance of the Rojava peoples is tried to be broken through attacks, but also with the help of agents and traitors. In order to thwart these annihilation plans, it is necessary to expand the resistance. Because we can only win by fighting."
After the speeches, the certificates of death were read out and given to the relatives of Mesûd Ibrahîm and Rêber Temo. The martyrs were buried under the slogan “Şehîd namirin” (Martyrs are immortals).
