Thousands of women in Cizire region of Northern Syria held a march to Mount Karachok (Qereçox) in Dêrik, chanting “Jin, Jiyan Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom) and “Bê Serok Jiyan Nabe” (No Life Without the Leader) to mark November 25 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

A statement was made to the press as the mass reached Qereçox, which said the following;

“The resistance of Mirabal sisters in 1960 became the resistance of millions of women.

With the emergence of ISIS, women faced with the reality of violence again as ISIS perpetrated savage massacres against women in Shengal, Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa and many other regions.

Right now, the AKP government of Turkey is committing violence against women. Kurdish women are playing a major role for the achievement of democracy in the Middle East. This is why the Turkish government has been arresting countless women under the pretense of terror.

We as the women of Northern Syria will never turn our will over to the Turkish state.

We also condemn the bill on child marriage that the Iraqi parliament has recently approved.

As Kurdish women, we will be strict followers of Rêber Apo (Leader Öcalan). We have learned to strive for freedom thanks to the freedom philosophy of our Leader.”
