The northern Syrian canton of Afrin has been occupied by Turkey for three years. YPG remembered the martyrs of the Afrin resistance and declared the liberation of the region as the primary goal of their fight.
The General Command of the People's Defense Units (YPG) has commemorated the martyrs three years after the occupation of Afrin by the Turkish state and has once again given their word that the region will be liberated.
The statement said, "The revolution of Rojava has put an end to the horror of ISIS and thus defended the values of humanity. The Turkish occupying state has always refused to accept democratic values and has carried out massive attacks on the revolution, which has set an example worldwide. One of these attacks took place on Afrin in 2018 before the eyes of the world public.
In the past, the Afrin region was known for its cultural wealth. Today, Afrin is facing a cultural massacre and demographic change. Our people, with their brave fighters under the leadership of Commander Karker Êriş, put up an unparalleled resistance for months. The Turkish occupying army and its gangs could only advance with their weapon technology in the face of this sacrificial spirit."
The statement described the resistance of the people along with the YPG, YPJ and SDF in Afrin as legendary. The future of the peoples of the Middle East is still threatened today by the Turkish state and its jihadist mercenary forces, the YPG Command said, adding, "Ending the occupation is the fundamental goal of our struggle. We respectfully remember Karker Êriş and all the martyrs of the Afrin resistance and reiterate the promise of liberation we made to our people and our martyrs."
