The region of North and East Syria faces an embargo due to the closure of the border gates. This embargo causes serious problems in the fields of economy and health. When the ISIS attacks against the Autonomous Administration were frustrated, they waged a war in such ways against the Autonomous Administration.
The citizens living in Tirbespiye district of Qamishlo Canton demanded the United Nations (UN) and Security Council to fulfil their responsibilities. Tirbespiye people recalled that the Autonomous Administration saved the entire world from the ISIS terrorism and stressed the necessity for the border gates to be opened.
‘Russia supports the embargo’
Expressing that they were astonished at the closure of the border gates, Mihemed Hisen said, “Why do they close the gates against the people who paid high price and fought the ISIS terrorism for the sake of the whole world, while the same gates are open for the terrorists? Opening the border gates will strengthen the struggle of the Autonomous Administration against the ISIS which aims to reorganise.”
Til Koçer (Al-Yaroubia), the only open border gate of North-East Syria had been closed due to veto of Russia and China in 2019.
Subsequent to veto orders, Til Koçer border gate crossing towards Iraq and al-Ramsa crossing towards Jordan were closed. Bab al-Hawa border crossing located in the region occupied by the Turkish state and allied gangs has been left open for humanitarian aids.
Russia, by closing Til Koçer border gate, intended to put pressure on the Autonomous Administration; it sought the region to be under the control of the Damascus government.
Assessing the embargo, Ehmed Yusif Sileman said, “Russia supports the embargo in order to fight the Autonomous Administration. The embargo encourages the terrorists. The UN should fulfil its responsibility to lift the embargo imposed on North and East Syria.”
‘The border gates should be opened’
Nasir Mihemed El-Emyan remarked that closure of the border gates affects all fields of the life and called on the UN to take action.
Also, Ebdullah El-Hemadi said, “Due to the embargo, the prices of foodstuffs are increasing. In a period of ever-increasing Coronavirus cases, the people in the region face a serious humanitarian crisis. The International community should fulfil their ethical responsibilities. In the meeting to be held in July, should be decided to open the border gates.”
