Turkish forces suspend work at Alouk water station again

Turkish forces stop pumping drinking water supplies to Heseke city and surrounding areas once again.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that Turkish forces have suspended work completely in Alouk water station for one more time for unknown reasons till now, which led to interruption of water supplies to Heseke (al-Hasakah) city and surrounding areas. According to the reports, water flow was very weak during the past 11 days and water did not reach the whole neighbourhoods of the city.

On April 27, SOHR reported a Russian patrol heading to al-Asadiya area coming from Qamishlo (al-Qamishli), accompanied by electricity maintenance technicians belonging to the Syrian Red Crescent.

According to the observatory, the maintenance workshop entered the areas held by Turkish-backed factions in the countryside of Heseke, under Turkish forces’ protection. Then they went to the Alouk water station in the countryside of Serekaniye (Ras al-Ain) to make repairs at the station responsible for supplying the city of Heseke and the villages of its countryside with drinking water.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored popular discontent in the city of Serekaniye and its countryside, following the power outage due to the use of electricity in water extracting to water agricultural projects.

While on April 20, the pumping of drinking water at Alouk Station stopped in the areas held by Turkish forces and their proxy factions, from which Alouk Station supplies the city of Heseke and areas in its countryside, while water from several wells could not reach civilians’ homes.

Furthermore, SOHR sources said that Turkish-backed factions allowed farmers to use electricity from 6 p.m. to early morning hours to grow their crops, in return for money.

“In this context, a Russian delegation was getting prepared to visit Alouk Station to check the electricity grid in the surrounding area, meet Turkish forces there to repair disruptions in the water system, and exert pressure on Turkish forces to remove illegal usage of electricity,” SOHR added.
