Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reported that fighters of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched an operation this afternoon after receiving intelligence about an infiltration attempt by two ISIS members into the Hajin town in Deir ez-Zor Governorate. The terrorists are reported to have come from the countryside of Suwayda city under Syrian regime control.
During the ensuing clash between SDF fighters and ISIS members, both terrorists were killed, while three SDF fighters fell as martyrs.
The Hajin town on the Syrian-Iraqi border was the last ISIS bastion in eastern Syria. With the liberation of the village of al-Baghouz by the SDF last March, ISIS was territorially defeated, but sleeper cells remain a major threat to the region. ISIS is also active in Mosul and Kirkuk regions in northern Iraq, southern Kurdistan.
