Two members of the Internal Security Forces who were killed in a Turkish air strike along with 27 colleagues, were laid to rest in the canton of Shehba.
With Cemîl Nasan and Îsmaîl Hesen, the last of the 29 victims of the Turkish airstrike on an academy of the Internal Security Forces near Dêrîk on 8 October have been buried. The burial took place in the canton of Shehba, where tens of thousands of displaced people have been living in precarious conditions since the Turkish occupation of Afrin in spring 2018.
The bodies of the two martyrs were taken from the Avrîn hospital in Fafîn to the cemetery in Ehrez, where they were received by a huge crowd and carried on the shoulders of Internal Security Forces members to the farewell ceremony.
Cemîl Nasan and Îsmaîl Hesen, like their 27 fallen colleagues, were members of an anti-drug unit of the Internal Security Forces of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and were not on combat duty at the time of the attack.
Speaking at the funeral, Şaziya Îbrahîm of the Council of Martyrs’ Families offered condolences to the families of the martyrs and the peoples of north-eastern Syria and commended the services of the martyrs in protecting the revolution and the people of the region.
Dilsoz Efrîn gave a speech on behalf of the Afrin-Shehba Cantonal Council and said that the Turkish state wanted to expel the population and occupy more areas in the north of Syria. Dilsoz Efrîn referred to the hypocrisy of the Turkish president and said: "Erdoğan speaks in front of the media about his sorrow for the Palestinian children and about water shortages in Palestine. At the same time, he is committing war crimes in north-east Syria, attacking infrastructure, cutting off water supplies, setting fire to cultivated fields and killing children and the elderly."
Hikmet Reşîd, one of the commanders of the Internal Security Forces, expressed his condolences to the relatives of the martyrs and stated that the struggle for security and for the liberation of Afrin and other occupied areas would continue. After the speeches, the certificates of the martyrs were read out and handed over to the families.
