Victims of Turkish attacks on Qamishlo laid to rest

Thousands of people in Qamishlo have bid farewell to the six victims of the Turkish airstrikes in northern Syria.

Eight civilians were killed in the Turkish airstrikes on Qamishlo on 25 November. A large farewell ceremony was held today for Ferhan Xelef, Bêrîvan Zubêr, Mihemed Hisên Mihemed, Riad Hemo, Rinas Hemîd and Ferhan Temê. The coffins decorated with flowers were carried from the Enteriyê neighbourhood to the Delîl Saroxan cemetery, where thousands of people shouted "Revenge" and "Berxwedan jiyan e" (Resistance is life).

People from all over the canton of Cizîrê took part in the farewell ceremony, including representatives of civil society organisations, the women's association Kongra Star, the Democratic Islamic Congress, political parties and the Democratic Autonomous Administration in the region of North and East Syria.

After a minute of silence at the cemetery, PYD Presidential Council Member Foza Yûsif expressed her sympathy to the families of the victims and the people of north-east Syria. Foza Yûsif wished those wounded by the Turkish attacks a speedy recovery and said: "The Turkish state wants to break our will and destroy our project built on the brotherhood of peoples. It has suffered a heavy defeat in the mountains of Kurdistan, which it is trying to compensate for by attacking the people of north-east Syria. In the face of the peoples' resistance, the Turkish government is suffering military, political, diplomatic and economic defeats."

Foza Yûsif pointed to the range of targets chosen by the Turkish state and said: "Children, young people, women, all population groups, schools, factories, health facilities and our infrastructure have been hit. Let the Turkish state and the world know that our belief in the model of a democratic nation and our people will never lose. It is the people who have decided to resist. Our struggle will win and Erdoğan, an enemy of humanity, will lose. We will not forgive those involved in this bloodshed and we will take revenge."

Ferhan Xelef, Bêrîvan Zubêr, Mihemed Hisên Mihemed, Riyad Hemo and Rinas Hemîd were buried in Qamishlo. The body of Ferhan Femê was transferred to Tirbespiyê for burial, while Ayya El Sebawî and Faris El Faris were buried in the village of Um El-Fursan near Qamishlo at the request of their families.
