“We will oppose the invasion with our history”

"The Turkish state attacks the history, memory, consciousness, identity and culture of Afrin. We will oppose the occupation intentions with our history, our culture and our memory.”

While the Turkish army's invasion attacks on the northern Syrian canton of Afrin have been continuing for 15 days, the Turkish Air Force is carrying out attacks on Kurdistan's culture and history. Many historical and archaeological sites were already destroyed by the bombing. The historic Ayn Dara Temple, which has a 3000-year history, has been almost completely destroyed by the Turkish air strikes.

Hamid Nasir, co-chair of Cultural Landscape Conservation Council in the Canton of Afrin, said that the Turkish state's attacks on historic sites are equivalent to cultural genocide and are considered attacks on memory. He called on the United Nations to act.

ATTACKS ON IDENTITY AND MEMORY

Nasir believes that the destroyed cultural sites have been deliberately selected. He explains the crimes against the humanity of the Turkish state with these words: "The Turkish state attacks the history, memory, consciousness, identity and culture of Afrin. Here, history that has a 3000-year past is looted. Since January 27, systematic attacks on archaeological sites are taking place."

"WE WILL RESIST WITH OUR HISTORY"

To the international institutions, in particular the United Nations, Hamid Nasir addresses the following appeal: "These attacks are intended to eradicate the history of the Kurdish people. The roots of the Kurdish past are intended to be eradicated. We are also experiencing the destruction of historic sites in Southern Kurdistan. What is happening in Southern Kurdistan is also wanted to be implemented in Afrin. In this way, they try to wipe out the Kurds. The AKP is trying to repeat in Afrin what it has already done in northern Kurdistan. Hasankeyf is about to be destroyed. We will oppose the invasion intentions with our history, our culture and our memory. Neither Afrin nor our history can be destroyed. "
