The Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) organized a women's meeting in Batman. The event was attended by DEM Party MPs Saliha Aydeniz and Zeynep Oduncu, members of the Peace Mothers Assembly, Batman Co-Mayor Gülistan Sönük, who was dismissed and replaced by a trustee, and many TJA activists.
Addressing the participants, TJA member Ruken Zeryam Işık Yıldız saluted women’s struggle against the male state and emphasized the importance of Batman in women's resistance.
'Women should play a leading role in organizing'
Referring to the historic ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ made by Abdullah Öcalan on February 27, Yıldız said, “Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan drew attention to the destructiveness of the Third World War and called for organization. Every Kurd should be aware of this reality and join the struggle. Women should play a leading role in organizing. Women are the driving force of the process that started on February 27. Women are increasing the struggle in all areas of life and expanding their gains. Kurdish women, who are leading the struggle, are doing their best to bring the call to a successful conclusion.”
'Millions of people shouted their demand for an honorable peace'
Co-Mayor Gülistan Sönük called for increased struggle, stating, “The struggle that emerged on March 8, Newroz on March 21 and April 4 (Öcalan’s birthday) has strengthened the process. Millions of people took to the streets and shouted their demand for an honorable peace. We will continue the struggle until this process ends in victory. We will carry the struggle for freedom and democracy to victory.”
DEM Party Mardin MP Saliha Aydeniz drew attention to the mobilization for the freedom of Öcalan, whose February 27 call, she said, is a response to the genocidal mentality directed against women through ISIS and its derivatives. “It is a response to the capitalist system that wants to put its goals into action through genocide in the Middle East. This system promises women nothing but slavery. With this process, women will achieve more gains. The philosophy of 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadî' [Woman, Life, Freedom] will triumph over the male state system. The construction of a free, ecological and democratic society will develop under the leadership of women. The construction of this society is important not only for Kurds but for the peoples of the whole world.”
