Co-mayor of Cizre sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison

Cizre Co-Mayor Güler Yerbasan Tunç was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison.

Güler Yerbasan Tunç, Co-Mayor of Şırnak’s Cizre district, was among the several women who participated in the press briefing held in Uludere district of Şırnak on November 25, 2022 on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. 

Uludere Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation against Güler Tunç for “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”. The indictment prepared within the scope of the investigation was accepted by Uludere Criminal Court of First Instance.

Güler Tunç did not attend the final hearing held on Thursday, while her lawyer was present. The prosecution demanded Güler Tunç be sentenced.

The court sentenced Güler Tunç to 1 year and 3 months for “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”.
