Private bakeries closed down in January as they wanted the price of a bag of bread to be 650 Syrian lira, instead of 500 Syrian lira. When private bakeries are closed, citizens find it difficult to find bread.
Giving information on the subject, Mehmud Mihemed, co-chair of Jazira Region Ovens, told ANHA: “We had a meeting with the private bakery. We want the solution of the problem. We investigated this situation. We are in a discussion right now. We will decide in a day or two. We conveyed our investigation and the demands of the bakers to the Economy Committee. Bakers state that the current price is too low and that they cannot meet their needs.”
The Bakery Management determined the price of a bag of bread as 500 Syrian lira.
Ovens will open on Monday
Stating that when the private ovens were closed in Hesekê, Mihemed said that they accelerated the work of the general ovens and added: "However, when the private ovens closed in Qamishlo, the owner of the general oven also closed its shutters. The owner of the general oven also broke one of the machines to prevent the oven from working. Therefore, citizens had trouble finding bread. However, on 15 January, the general oven was repaired. Work is underway for the production of even more bread. We expect special bakeries to open their shutters tomorrow, Monday, until the price issue will be solved.”
