A 16-year-old Yazidi teen freed from ISIS yesterday has been reunited with his family in Shengal today.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Wednesday freed a Yazidi teen named Erdewan from ISIS and delivered him to his family in Shengal.
The 16-year-old Yazidi teen was being held by ISIS in the Hol Camp. The SDF freed the Yazidi teen from ISIS in an operation on the evening of May 26.
Erdewan was returned to his family in Shengal on Thursday with the help of the Yazidi House and the Yazidi Women's Solidarity Movement.
Rîham Hesen, a member of the Yazidi Women's Solidarity Movement, said that “The Iraqi government continues to ignore us. But the SDF, which saved us from a massacre, continues to free our people from ISIS. We thank the SDF. Our movement liberates the prisoners and delivers them to their families in coordination with the Yazidi House and the SDF.”
“The Yazidi community has been trying to ensure the emancipation of the prisoners for 7 years. Instead of helping us free the prisoners, the Iraqi government is restraining us,” Hesen added.
