The Iraqi government's plan to build a wall between Shengal and Rojava has sparked a huge public reaction. In a statement on Tuesday, the Yazidi Women's Union in Aleppo called on international law organizations to intervene to stop the construction of a wall between Shengal and Rojava.
Dozens of Yazidis gathered outside the Yazidis House in the Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêxmeqsûd) neighborhood in Aleppo and made a statement to the press. The statement, read out by Newroz Ado, a member of the Aleppo Yazidi Women's Union Coordination, pointed out that hegemonic powers encouraged the Turkish state to implement their hostile policies targeting the peoples of the Middle East.
“The 2014 attacks against Shengal were planned by the Turkish state, which sought to establish bases in Shengal to control the areas near the border. It agreed with the Iraqi government to control Shengal,” the statement continued.
The statement underlined that the wall between Rojava and Shengal aims to break the will of the Yazidi community and eliminate their achievements. It also pointed out that the Turkish state wants to control the Zap, Metîna and Avaşîn regions of the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones through Shengal.
The statement called on international law organizations to stop the building of walls, insisting that the Yazidis would resist to protect their sacred values.
