Serhat Baya joined the resistance units in Shengal (YBŞ) from France. Now he is fighting against ISIS in Deir ez-Zor.
Serhat Baya travelled to Northern Iraq from France six months ago to fight against the ISIS. He joined Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) for this purpose. And after Shengal was completely liberated from ISIS he participated in the Operation Cizire Strom. Now he is fighting in Deir ez-Zor front.
He describes himself as an internationalist and explains why he joined YBŞ: "For me, helping the Ezidis in this world is an honour. ISIS has inflicted great wounds on them. As an internationalist, it was important for me to support them. "
Baya postponed his return to France because he wanted to participate in the Operation Cizire Storm.
"When I was with the resistance units in Shengal, I witnessed the return of the YBŞ fighters who fought in Raqqa. That impressed me a lot. I decided to stay longer to fight in Rojava and Deir ez-Zor. I am glad that I can participate in the last offensive against ISIS. It makes me feel good and I want to help as best I can. I admire that the YPG indiscriminately protects all people from the ISIS regardless of their ethnicity and religion. In addition, they protect the rights of women. I met great and courageous people here. "
