YPG Press Office released a statement refuting Turkish media reports claiming the deployment of a new convoy of weapons provided by the International Coalition to Afrin.
The statement by YPG Press Office is as follows;
"A video, containing victory celebrations of our fighters and solidarity messages with Afrin, which was published on our social networks some time ago has been used by the AKP government to mislead people; the facts in the video have been distorted and a smearing campaign has been launched by the AKP media against People's Defense Units (YPG).
The AKP government and the pro-government media alleged that the convoy displayed in the video was sent to Afrin. But these claims and assessments are far from the reality and do not base on any evidence. The video was not shot in Afrin, and the displayed convoy was not sent to Afrin.
As is known, YPG is one of the basic and pioneering components of the Syrian Democratic Forces, and has played the most active role in the process of organizing SDF. Syrian Democratic Forces, YPG and YPJ have gained a historical victory against ISIS in the capital of terrorism, Raqqa. Before The Raqqa operation begins, AKP and pro-government media carried out another smearing campaign against our forces, did everything possible just to prevent our participation in Raqqa Liberation Campaign. After the liberation of Raqqa, the AKP government and its media are still attacking our forces in order to leave this great victory in shadow, trying to present the truth to the public by distorting it.
As it is known, ISIS poses a threat to the whole world and this threat is not over yet.
Of course, there are responsibilities of all the countries of the world in the struggle against a terrorist organization that poses a threat to the whole world.
Our forces that have been working to fulfill these responsibilities have been supported by the International Coalition against Islamic State. During the Raqqa Liberation Campaign, our forces displayed a great resistance and heroism, giving hundreds of martyrs on this occasion, ensuring that about 450,000 civilians were freed from ISIS captivity. The weapons seen in the video were acquired as a result of our great resistance and struggle against ISIS and were used in the fight against IS. The images were taken during victory celebrations of fighters after the great victory in Raqqa.
Pro-government media organizations should not be regarded as principled journalistic institutions as they are trying to create perceptions by distorting the truth.”
