YPJ's Martyr Silava and martyr Berivan, who were among those who established the YPJ, were commemorated with a military ceremony. YPJ commander Evindar Afrin said that martyrs Silava and Berivan were the pioneers of the Rojava revolution that started in 2011.
She underlined that martyr Silava and martyr Berivan were the children of the people and added: "First of all, we commemorate martyrs Silava and Berivan with respect and extend our condolences to their families. Our two martyrs grew up with the spirit of patriotism. Therefore, they joined the ranks of freedom at a young age and eventually fell as martyrs for this cause. We will follow in the footsteps of martyrs Silava and Berivan and we will achieve success. We promise this."
Şaristan Berivan, brother of the martyr Berivan, said: "May is the month of martyrs. Martyr Silava and Berivan too fell as martyrs in May. Our 2 martyrs created a power among the people. We will walk in their footsteps. Because martyrs are the light of freedom. Thanks to the martyrs, we have known a free life and we will continue their struggle to the end."
