TEV-DEM calls upon UN to fulfil its responsibilities over Makhmur

Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) called upon United Nations to take up a position against Turkish airstrike that targeted Makhmur Refugee Camp.

TEV-DEM, the umbrella organization of civil organizations in Northern Syria condemned the Turkish attack against Makhmur Refugee Camp on Dec 6. Five members of Makhmur’s Self Defence Forces were killed in the attack.

"We offer our condolences to the families of those who were martyred in the attack" the organization said and pointed out UN’s responsibility for the camp. TEV-DEM called upon UN, the Iraqi government and other international institutions to take up a position against Turkey.

“The brutal attack which martyred five people is a violation of Iraq’s territorial sovereignty (…) We call upon the Iraqi government to start a formal investigation to find out the preparators of this treacherous attack” the statement read.

TEV-DEM stated that it’s ready to work to prevent such attacks in Iraq and Kurdistan region.

On Dec 6, Turkish warplanes attacked a building of Makhmur’s Self Defence Force, which was formed against ISIS attacks. Makhmur’s fighters successfully defended their territory against ISIS gangs since 2014.
