The dream of the Suruç martyrs comes true in Kobanê

“When I first saw children in Kobanê, it reminded me instantly of my fallen comrades. When the laughter of the children of Kobanê resounds in my ears, I see the faces of my martyred friends”, says a survivor of the Suruç massacre.

Be it even a small step towards it, but the fulfilment of the young Suruç martyrs' big dreams has taken form in Kobanê with the opening of a playground for children. One of the activists wounded in the Suruç massacre, Bêrîtan Asya said: "We want to fulfil our fallen comrades' wish with opening this children's park, be it even a small step only."

On the 3rd anniversary of the Suruç massacre, which resulted in the death of 33 socialist youths from Turkey, who set off with internationalist spirit to support the Rojava Revolution but were killed in a suicide attack for which officially ISIS was held responsible, the big dreams and projects of those youths are being fulfilled in Kobanê by their comrades.

Bêrîtan Asiya was among those enthusiastic youths, who embarked on the city Kobanê in Rojava three years ago. Asiya got injured severely in that bomb attack, but after a treatment of three months she betook herself unflinchingly to Kobanê, to fulfil with grim determination her martyred comrades' dreams, no matter how little it be.

“WHEN I SEE CHILDREN, I REMEMBER MY COMRADES”

Speaking to ANF, Asiya told the following:

"Following the liberation of Kobanê we, the Socialist Youth of Northern Kurdistan and Turkey started a campaign with the motto 'We have defended it together, we will rebuild it together'. But it became clear that the Turkish state couldn't tolerate the youths' honourable stance and carried out a deadly attack using its gang members. Our only guilt was to collect toys for the deprived children of Kobanê, and therefore 33 of our comrades were martyred.

When I first saw children in Kobanê, it reminded me instantly of my fallen comrades. When the laughter of the children of Kobanê resounds in my ears, I see the faces of my martyred friends. Today, on the anniversary of their martyrdom, the children's playground of the Pirsus Martyrs has been opened and even though it is a small step yet, it is the fulfilment of my comrades' dreams."
