18th Zilan Women's Festival held in London

The Zilan Women's Festival, organized for the 18th time in London by the Jiyan Women's Assembly, was held with the slogan "We are marching towards the women's revolution – Jin, Jiyan, Azadi".

The 18th Zilan Kurdish Women's Festival, organized by the Jiyan Women's Assembly in London, at the local Kurdish Community Center, saw the participation of hundreds of women. This year, the festival was dedicated to Evîn Goyî (Emine Kara), who was killed in Paris on 23 December 2022.

The festival started with a minute's silence on behalf of all the revolutionaries who fell as martyrs. Besime Başar, a member of the Jiyan Women's Assembly said that the women's struggle was targeted in the person of Evîn Goyî, and added: "The Free Women's Struggle which Evîn Goyî carried out with great commitment succeeded with the Rojava Women's Revolution. Later, the serhildans which developed in Rojhilat Kurdistan spread all over the world with the slogan Jin, Jiyan, Azadi.”

Başar called on all people, especially women, to increase their struggle “against the male-dominated system, against femicides and the Kurdish genocide policies carried out by the AKP-MHP fascist alliance.”

During the festival, stands where national clothes and books were offered for sale were set up, while a painting workshop was run for children and local dishes were served to the participants.

Young artist Gülbahar took the stage for the first time at the festival. After Gülbahar, Jiyan Women's Choir took the stage under the direction of artist Suna Alan, followed by Deniz Deman.
