At least 39 women were murdered, 15 others died suspiciously in Turkey in February

According to JINNEWS' February tally on violence against women, at least 39 women were murdered and 15 women died under suspicious circumstances.

According to women's news agency JINNEWS' February tally, there was a horrible increase in femicides last month. At least 39 women were murdered in a month, while 15 others died under suspicious circumstances. The victims were mostly murdered by divorced men.

According to the report, 10 women were murdered in Istanbul, 3 in Sakarya, 3 in Bursa, 2 in Samsun, 2 in Ankara, 2 in Adana, 1 in Artvin, 1 in Aydın, 1 in Edirne, 1 in Bartın, 1 in Elazığ, 1 in Burdur, 1 in Hatay, 1 in Antep, 1 in Düzce, 1 in Urfa, 1 in Antalya, 1 in Diyarbakır, 1 in Denizli, 1 in Çanakkale, 1 in İzmir, 1 in Erzurum and 1 in Manisa.

Of the murdered women, 9 were killed by the man they were divorced from, 6 by men they knew, 6 by men they were together with, 8 by men they were married to, 6 by their sons, 3 by their fathers and one woman was murdered by a man she was in the process of divorce.

According to JINNEWS annual balance sheet, at least 320 women were murdered by men in 2023 and 189 of them died under suspicious circumstances.
