The women's culture festival, named after the KNK representative Fidan Doğan (Rojbîn) who was killed in France on 9 January 2013, took place in Paris for the fourth time.
The fourth edition of the women's festival in memory of Fidan Doğan (Rojbîn) took place in Paris on Saturday. “Defend free women and free society against femicide” was the slogan of the cultural festival organized by the Kurdish women's movement. This year the festival was dedicated to the revolutionary Leyla Agirî (Filiz Aslan) who fell as a martyr in Kurdistan in June 2020, killed by a Turkish killer drone.
The festival's stage program alternated between music, dance performances and speeches. Senator Laurence Cohen from the Communist Party of France from the Val-de-Marne department said in his speech: “As a senator, feminist and communist, it is a great honor for me that the Kurdish women’s festival is taking place here. Three women from people fighting for peace, democracy and freedom were murdered in Paris; Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez. The HDP worker Deniz Poyraz was murdered in June this year. We stand on the side of the Kurds who are committed to peace. We demand justice."
A message of greeting from the KJK (Community of Women of Kurdistan) was read out, in which the leadership role of women in the fight against fascism was pointed out. The cultural program included a Tamil dance group and the Kurdish musicians Meral Alkan, Yelda Ebbasi and Nuarin.
